Campaign

*Winner of the Virginia Humanities Pitch Competition*

The Concept

Develop a mobile app that teaches users to have healthy conversations through recreational debate by featuring divisive topics from other areas other than politics.  Once familiar and confident with these tactics and moderation, users will feel confident to talk about political issues again.

The Ask

Develop a platform or idea that helps Americans have real conversations about divisive topics in a healthy manner.

Background

It is no secret that the country is more divided than ever, and the political climate has a lot to do with that. People feel they can no longer engage in a simple conversation about divisive topics without being attacked or belittled.

The Approach

Help people have healthier debate by teaching people good debate etiquette through daily debate and moderation.

Key Insight

In a structured setting, debate is viewed as entertainment but un-structured settings such as social media have become toxic and unappealing to the everyday American.

Learnings

Dig deeper on a brief before deciding how you feel.

When I first got this brief I hated it, went into it thinking it was going to be the worst. After getting into the research and the idea of our platform came about I loved it and this is one of the pieces I am most proud of.

App development is insanely interesting.

While I personally did not build this app, watching my teammates go through the process of it was fascinating.

If you really believe in a piece, trademark it.

After winning the VA Humanities pitch competition, we now have the opportunity to possibly get our app developed using seed money won.
